Knock. Knock.
From his comfortable spot on the sofa, Thadd Blazevich sighed. “Dude if this is another package from that Fashion Sofa site it’s going back.”
“I thought it was called Fashion Nova?” Crosby Carter gave his bro an odd look.
Honestly, it didn’t matter what the name of the website was. For the past week or so, Carsyn Carabetta and Athena Odegaarde had been receiving package after package. All of them containing clothes, shoes, makeup, or other stuff Thadd didn’t care that much about. The FloBros didn’t exactly live in luxury and they sure as hell didn’t share a spacious pad with their companions. Space was limited.
Knock. Knock.
“Are you gunna get that?”
Thadd shot his bro a look. “Seriously? You answer the door. ”
It was a lazy Monday afternoon. Thadd was off and Crosby just didn’t feel like answering his Uber pings. For the past two hours, the bros had been binging on video games, beer, and carbless snacks. Crosby had been drinking beer. Thadd had obviously been eating Veggie straws. Crosby let out a lazy sigh but he paused their game and shuffled towards the door. He didn’t even bother to check and see who it was.
“Crosby.”
Almost immediately, Thadd jumped off the couch.
“Marge!” Crosby immediately wrapped Thadd’s beloved grandmother in a hug, and when Thadd appeared at the door, he noticed his younger sister standing beside her. Emilia McClellan’s eyeliner and mascara wer smeared all over her face and she looked like she wanted be anywhere other than Thadd and Crosby’s tiny porch.
Margaret ‘Marge’ Thomas embraced her honorary grandchild, big smile on her face. Marge just loved Crosby. Thadd ignored them, his focus on Emi. Seeing her disheveled and upset immediately brought out his protective side. It wasn’t something he would ever admit out loud, but Emi had him wrapped around her pinky finger since birth. For the most part, Thadd had raised his sister. After having two children dumped in her lap, Marge had struggled to make ends meet. For most of Thadd’s life, she had worked two jobs to keep them going. With basically no parents, it had always just been Thadd and Emi.
“What are you doing here?” Thadd asked, eyes on his sister.
Marge pulled away from Crosby and folded her arms across her chest. She watched Emi sulk, refusing to look at anything but her dirty Converses. She cleared her throat. Emi shot her a glare. Silence ensued. Thadd and Crosby exchanged looks, and it was Crosby who spied the suitcase sitting beside Emi on the ground.
“Sooooo you stayin?”
Marge shot her fave a grateful look. “I don’t care where she stays, but it’s no longer with me.”
“But Gram…”
Marge turned to Emilia. “No buts. I told you that if you wanted to do what you wanted to do, you weren’t going to do it in my house. I realize that you’re 18-years old, and there’s not a lot I can do to you, but I can make sure I don’t have to see it in my home. Breaking curfew, coming home drunk, letting your grades slip, and getting suspended is unacceptable behavior and you know that. Not to mention I’m sick of your mouth, the provocative clothes you wear now, and all that makeup all over yo-”
Thadd took a step back. “Whoa, hold up. When did all this start happening? What the hell is going on?”
Crosby retreated back to the sofa. He knew what was going on but he wasn’t touching this situation with a ten-foot pole.
“You got suspended from school?”
Marge nudged Emi inside and went to take her leave. Thadd gave her a desperate look. “Are you really leaving her here? She can’t stay here. We don’t have any room.”
“I’m done Thadd.” Marge’s voice was gentle, but firm. “Emilia had chance after chance, and I’m at the end of my rope with her. She knew her actions would have consequences, and I’ve worked to long and to hard to put up with his. I won’t be disrespected and I won’t watch her throw away her life.”
Thadd sighed and both siblings watched their grandmother leave. Emi wiped her eyes, and kicked her suitcase over with her foot. “So you really don’t want me to say here?”
“We don’t have any room, Em! What the hell’s going on? I thought everything was fine?!”
“It is!” Emi shouted, and there was a bit of hurt in her voice. “I can’t believe you don’t even want me to crash on your couch! Cars and Cros aren’t going to care. Like why do you want me to just go live in the streets?”
Thadd ignored the dramatics. “Dude Gram’s pissed right now and I don’t blame her. You graduate in like two months. Why are you getting suspended for fighting now?”
Emi’s pale cheeks flushed and she took a peak over at Crosby, who was still perched on the couch. His poker face was firmly in place. “Because some stupid whore was telling the entire school she was fucking Logan.”
That was the last thing Thadd ever wanted to hear. “Emilia, you’re fucking kidding right?”
Emi just gave her brother a dumb look.
“Why would who Logan sticks his dick in be any concern to you?”
Crosby snorted. He couldn’t help it.
Emilia shot him the dirtiest look ever. “Because he’s my best friend and I don’t want his reputation ruined, duh.” She folded her arms across her chest. “I’m staying here whether you like it or not. You’re fucking two hoes so you can't fucking lecture me."
“Emilia…” Thadd’s voice actually had an edge too it. Clearly she’d struck a nerve.
“Not to mention,” she continued on, in full blown brat mode. “I did something for you I could go to jail for. So like you owe me your whole fucking life.” She stuck her tongue out at her brother and stormed off down the hall. Thadd clenched his jaw as he heard his bedroom door slam.
“What did she mean by that? What the fuck kind of crime could Em J possibly commit?” Crosby asked, curiosity piqued.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Thadd turned and stormed out the front door, slamming it shut behind him.
