Anna Badstreet had decided to return to Reno for several days to deal with some cases that her law firm had been working on. The scene reveals her in her corner office on the 3rd flood in the 5 storey building; the floor that focused more on family and criminal law and civil litigation. As much as Anna enjoyed doing family law due to the painful history of her past that didn’t really discuss to people in public, she enjoyed doing criminal law just as much. She had done work on both sides of criminal cases in the court room and she knew how to argue those sides well when she needed to do so.
Now she was focusing her energies on being a defence lawyer for a case that was brought against a casino in Reno that was being sued by a man who felt he was being swindled by the casino. On top of the original allegations, the man also made serious allegations that the establishment has been pulling the wool over people’s eyes for the crimes that were occurring in the building. The casino had placed Anna on retainer to fight the case for them while they also launched a countersuit against the main for libel and defamation since the man had not brought the burden of proof in court to prove any of his allegations. Anna is heard chuckling as she worked on her computer.
“The audacity of some people in the United States; they think they can sue someone and actually succeed in winning their case if they cannot bring the balls to succeed.”
“Here are the documents you requested Ms. Badstreet.”
Anna looked up to see one of her legal assistants coming into her office, handing her a file folder of some of the forms and affidavits needed for the case between the man and the casino. Many of the lawyers in the office only had the 1 assistant but with the amount of cases in 3 different areas, she was the one of the few in the building that had a small group of them working with her.
“Thank you Marina. Please commence on the research for the book of authority please. We need that started by Friday before the opening arguments of the case start.”
“Yes Ms. Badstreet.”
Anna sighed quietly as the formal title was used since she wasn’t so strict about it while in the office. She opened the folder and began looking over the files for editing before they were sent to the court house. Anna cursed loudly when she heard the intercom on her deck go off and placed her pen down. She sighed before she pressed the button to speak to the receptionist at the front desk.
“What is it?”
“There is someone here that wishes to see you Ms. Badstreet.”
Anna arched an eyebrow at the sudden announcement of a visitor for her.
“Does the person have an appointment Marcus?”
“He says he doesn’t but he says that it’s important that he see you.”
Anna snickered briefly as she rolled her eyes before pressing the button again.
“That is what they all say. Tell him to make an appointment through my secretyary like everyone else.”
“He is saying that he can’t wait Ms. Badstreet. He is quite insistent that he wants to see you now.”
Anna arched her brow at the mention about her job as a professional wrestler. Many in the building knew that she was a professional wrestler but few of her colleagues would bring it up in conversation. She sighed quietly as Marcus got her attention again on the intercom.
“Should I send him away Ms. Badstreet?”
“That is ok Marcus; send him up to my office. I will deal with it personally.”
“Ok Ms. Badstreet but you should be prepared that he is not exactly the type of person that would visit the law firm.”
Anna closed the file folder, placed it in her desk and closed the drawer with force while she waited for the person to arrive. She rarely got the time to spend in the office with her wrestling career caused her to be away from home quite often. She narrowed her brown eyes onto the man as soon as he stepped into the doorway. Anna took in and noticed the off the top and flamboyant style of her visitor as he walked in, a different type of swagger than what Anna was used to seeing from many people.
“There better be a good reason for you to have travelled all this way to see me in my other line of work. Some I rarely if ever take visits from random people into my office.”
She leaned back against her chair while she waited for the visitor to answer her request of information, her dark brown eyes making sure that he never left her sight.
“I don’t like to be kept waiting, especially by people that I need assistance from.”
Anna picked up a slight touch of an accent in the man’s voice but she couldn’t pick up from what part of the world it was from while she continued to process the man in front of her, including his mannerisms and his actions.
“If you needed to see me badly as badly as you claimed, you should have made an appointment with my secretary; just like any other potential client would do.”
Anna sighed quietly as she took into the information that the client wanted from her.
"Forgive me sir but I have other commitments to attend to. Please make an appointment with my secretary for future communications with me."
Anna sighed as the man headed out of the office and she headed to her Mercades BMW and began the trip towards the east coast to New Jersey to begin her tenure with The Factory.
